P. t. cruiser?…as in port townsend and cruiser (that would be ‘you’!) as in cruising’ the town for found objects! This is going to be a treasure hunt of sorts… ‘goin’ green’… a recycling what you find kinda class…recycling elements that you’ve collected while here in beautiful p.t. and f.w. that will have a special meaning for you. This will be a ‘memory assemblage’, one that will turn into a fabulous and funky piece of artwork… The base of your piece could be a sturdy box, a vintage frame, an old tin, a junky drawer, or an old shoe or a mixture of all! The rest of your piece will be what you find while here in p.t…it may be books of matches…mossy twigs…thai take-out menus…local newspapers…receipts…shells…rocks…driftwood…postcards… you get the idea, right? free & found objects! No-doz box…wine corks…copies of journal pages and trades. Think in terms of multiples too…more is more in this class….and what we don’t use and share with one another…we can toss. So, as you can tell this artwork will represent little snippets of your time spent here in this amazing and serene setting. Memories that you’ll ’assemble’ into a soulful, treasured, 3-d ’journal page’ all to adorn your little nest’ with fond memories of your local p.t./f.w./a.f. journey!

This workshop will basically be an ’assemblage 101’ class…teaching and sharing some tried and true techniques that I’ve had good luck with over the years. I’ll cover some design elements that will help you breeze through your work…including composition, repetition, color, and scale…along with wiring, aging techniques, and other ’quickies’ to keep you moving right along with your assemblage. I’ll also touch upon quieting the harsh critic that seems to seep into our thoughts as we are trying to create. In the end, you’ll go away with a meaningful visual memory.

Ps…the photos of artwork here are some that are ‘specific memories’ for me… I didn’t think of this class idea ‘til I left port townsend…or I would have a stash of treasures to turn into my soulful assemblage…I’ll be teaching and demonstrating with the one that I’ll be taking to my little nest of my time spent with y’all here at artfest…but, wanted y’all to get an idea of what kind of a piece you’ll go home with.
