On a trip to Chicago, I was introduced to my first Art-O-Mat vending machine. The Art-O-Mat is a reconditioned cigarette machine filled with original pieces of art the size of a cigarette package – affordable, accessible to everyone and portable! We will work on the concept of making our own version of “vending” art on wood blocks 21/8th x 3¼”. Let’s have some fun on this smaller scale while learning some cool collage, transfer and painting techniques. This is a fun class for all levels.

kit fee: $5 supply list
- 1 roll of clear packing tape 2” wide (Scotch brand is good)
- Small bottle of Diamond Glaze or Aleene’s Paper Glaze (Michaels)
- Scissors
- Soft gel medium gloss
- Water container
- Pencil 6B
- Acrylic craft paint –( inexpensive in squeeze bottle) White, Black and at least 3 of your favorite colors
- Golden Fluid acrylic in 1 oz bottle: Paynes Gray and Yellow Iron Oxide
- 3 paintbrushes: small detail brush, medium round brush and large brush (3/4-1”)
- Optional:
- A small selection of text, clip art and toner copy photos, sized for a 2x3 surface, that are special to you.
- Apron
- Watercolor pencils or crayons
- Textural rubber stamp (scrolls/crackle/dots…) and black quick dry ink
- Kit fee $5.00:
- Kit will include a handout, 6 wood blocks, a “mystery” multi purpose tool, images, clip art and ephemera
- Instructor will provide:
- \In addition to the kits I will provide paper, gesso, other fluid acrylic colors, stamps and various other art materials for you to use in class.
I am a mixed media artist drawn to the saturated colors and layering that can be achieved using oil paints and liquid acrylics. The images I paint are contemporary characters and landscapes that have been inspired by vintage children’s book illustrations, photographs and ephemera. These images have a story just waiting to be told and my goal is to paint pieces, which have a story – left up to the viewer to imagine. I am a regular instructor in collage and acrylic painting techniques in theSouthern Oregon and San Diego areas.
