description

How do we take common place objects and create perfect little jewels out of them? Come create your own wildly fun necklace with an unusual combination of materials including chain, wire, beads, tin, bits of old jewelry, and buttons. We’ll look at different ways to construct a necklace and add sparkle, color and movement to your piece . I’ll demo how to make wire-wrapped loops, spirals, and links to attach beads and found objects. Together we will cut, drill and wire wrap tin to create your own fabulous charms.

Liesel Lund is an artist, jewelry designer and teacher. She has worn many creative hats over the years. After completing a B.A. degree with an emphasis in fine art and natural history, she marched into the real world and used graphic design to support herself (and later her fabulous furry studio assistants). As a Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand she created a visitor center and guided nature trail at Doi Luang National Park. Upon returning home she designed the signage for The Woodland Park Zoo’s Butterflies and Blooms exhibit. As a senior designer for Wright Group/McGraw-Hill she designed children’s books and teacher materials. Later she created textile prints for Tommy Bahama. She has been designing and selling her jewelry since 2003.

Liesel’s earliest memory is of watching a dragonfly hover over sun sparkling water. This magical mix of color and refracting light captured her imagination and her love of this combination often can be seen in her artwork today. Her love of all things pretty has expanded over the years to express itself in many media including: watercolor, pastels, acrylics, oils, journals, fibers, fabric, metal, beads, and photography.

As a teacher she believes that we are all artists and that making art adds an invaluable richness to our lives. Her purpose as a teacher is to share her passion of art and to encourage students to express their own unique creative style.
