Vintage and contemporary photos of Fort Worden and Port Townsend, along with handy journaling techniques combine in this class. Working with tissue papers to create collages, applying pattern and text to mesh with patina, image transfers, extending the photo onto a page, self portraiture, and mark making will come together on the pages of your Artfest Field Journal. Weíll do some creative stretching exercises and make a couple of foam stamps. The simple book structure allows you to add pages willy nilly all week, and the pockets will give you a great place to stash ephemera , class notes, and trades.. Attach charms and other trades to your binder rings and take home a visual feast.

kit fee: $5 supply list
- Kit fee $5: patina solution, rubber cement, deli paper, kraft tissue paper, white tissue paper, colored tissue papers, sewing pattern tissue, goldenís heavy gel medium
- Supplies:
- 2 22x30 sheets of 140lb cold press watercolor paper, torn into 12 11x10 sheets * (see Homework)
- 1 pk brass wiremesh (the fine wiremesh)
- sm jar gel medium ñgloss ñ Goldenís if you have it.
- Sm bottle liquid acrylic medium ñ cheapo stuff
- 4 yds freezer paper
- Glue stick, scissors, awl, ruler, paint brushes, dish/cup for water, travel pack of wipes
- 3/8în hole punch
- Four 2î binder rings
- Palette knife (plastic is fine)
- Acrylic paints ñ fluid acrylics or cheapo craft paints from Michaelís/JoAnns in colors that go with your images, be sure to include a black and a white or buff.
- China marker black
- White gel pen or china marker
- 2 9x12 sheets of fun foam- one 6mm, and one 2mm self adhesive
- Mark making medium- art crayons, water soluble oil pastels, brush tip markersÖ use what you have
- Plastic stencil and alphabet stickers to pattern mesh
- 6 sheets of scrapbook paper (3 coordinating pairs)
- A handful of paper brads or paper fasteners, a handful of eyelets
- Images:
- One or two self portraits photocopies in b&w
- Print some photos in b&w, some in color, some on regular paper and some on photo paper
- Enlarge images to fill page
- Optional: Print some on tissue by coating a piece of copier paper with repositionable spray adhesive and attaching tissue paper..

- Eyelet setting tools (please bring if you have), hard rubber brayer, decorative tissue paper or decorative napkins to share, decorative stamps
- Homework: Tear your paper in half length-wise, and then again in thirds- youíll have 12 11x10 sheets. Coat each side with gesso prior to coming to Artfest.
