Q. What do you get when you mix white paint with collage, ephemera, lace, and pearls and put them all on canvas?

 A.  A beautiful piece of art that will calm you every time you look at it, much like a snowy, quiet afternoon in the middle of winter. 

You might think focusing on only one color (or lack of) might be a drag, but it’s quite the opposite. The textures and hues from what subtle colors are there seem to jump out so much more when surrounding them with white. 

In this class we will be letting our artwork unfold as we limit our palette and dive into the snowy banks of white.  We will be using a variety of painting techniques, gel transfers, collage, basic drawing & coloring, sewing, and stamping. This class is for all levels, so come enjoy a full day of creative fun…and no snow needed!The artists in this workshop will come away with a personal wall calendar extraordinaire. Creating an 11 x 14 collage as a “base background” the student will then layer “memory” transparencies by rolling the symbolic images and/or words down and across, creating unlimited combos. No month or day will ever look the same again. The transparencies will reflect personal quests, memories, and special dates embracing the life and moments of each individual artists world.

• 2 Stretched Canvases 12’x 16”
• Five or more sheets of 100% cotton Watercolor Paper 9” x 12” or larger.  {I highly recommend Fabriano Artistico Traditional white Cold Pressed  140 lb watercolor paper.}
• Ephemera, old text pages, old poetry book pages, music script to be used for gel transfers
• Your favorite magazine or old art book for collage images (think hands, faces, buildings)
• If you don’t want to bring the whole book tear out your favorite pages.
• Golden Titanium White & Golden Zinc White
• Golden Medium Soft Gel Matte
• Artist Crayons: Neocolor II, Caran D' Ache (just a few… white, sepia, & gray tones) (www.dickblick.com)
• Adiraondack reinkers  Oregano, latte, and/or Pesto. (http://www.blockheadstamps.com)
• A few background stamps: flowers, script, leaves, etc.
• Scissors
• White masking tape
• Fine and medium grit sandpaper
• White embellishments: ribbon, lace, mica glitter, mica sheets,  buttons, beads, pearls,  needle & white thread, photo corners, tiny glass beads, anything white that wants to be glued to canvas.

• A few medium sized brushes {I love Princeton Synthetic Sable Filbert}
