In this project driven class, your door to jewelry creativity will open as you learn the foundations of metalsmithing: Learn about tools used for metal fabrication, sawing, riveting and forging. These techniques will be covered as we create a hand forged chain link, twisted jump rings. Your skills in sawing, riveting and forging will be cultivated as you create a faceted curio centerpiece. Collected trinkets can also be added to this completed project.
Ruth Rae has a strong background in jewelry design and metalsmithing. But her true passion is "mixed media fiber art", Recognized for its unexpected yet elegant combinations of altered fabrics along with transparencies, found objects and words that is held together by hand and machine stitching, her work has been featured in galleries across the country as well as art magazines and TV. Ruth collaborated with fellow artist, Kelly Snelling, to produce "A Charming Exchange", a book about techniques and inspiration for creating mixed-media jewelry created with charms from a selection of twenty-five talented contributing artists. Ruth is currently working on her next book about mixed media fabric art that will be released in 2009.
