In this class, you are the artist/apprentice in the field of fabric taxidermy. With fabric, beads, fiber, needle and thread you will construct a taxiderdy-type art doll. Make her as pretty or as odd as you like. With a few sewing technique, she will appears like she is coming out of the wall. 

I will show you several ways of creating her features and provide you with a pattern and instructions on how you can create your own. There are numerous ways of applying her hair, her clothes and accessories.  I will discuss and illustrate all applications.

This fun workshop is a unique approach to creating art dolls. All skill levels are welcomed.  A great class for the beginner and advance artist alike.

• 1/2 a yard of muslin
• 1/2 a yard of cream or white felt
• a baggy of fabric scraps
• 4-5 fat quarters of fabric
• embroidery floss in various colors
• seed beads in various colors and sizes
• black beading thread size D
• hand sewing needles
• embroidery needles
• thimble (very important)
• roving for hair
• colored pencil, crayons
• freemotion foot
• sewing kit (scissors, pins, pin cushion)
• sewing machine

Alma Stoller is a fabric, fiber and mixed media artist. She teaches all over the country at various art retreats and conferences. Her writing has been published in major art publications like Somerset Studios and Cloth, Paper, Scissors. She was also featured on the Home and Garden channel in the ‘Crafter's Coast to Coast’ program. She creates several zines and  is currently working on a magazine called Crochetology. Her first book Fabric Beads Extravaganza will be released in the Summer of 2009.
