Thank you for the past 5 years of fiberfest. Due to a myriad of reasons, we are closing the doors on this beloved retreat but rest assured we are working on new ideas to get this great group together once a year to make stuff and be together. As soon as we have details we will post them here, but the actual fiberfest will not be held in 2010. Thank you for your support all these years!
Reed College is in Portland, OR. just about 10 minutes from downtown and about the same from the airport.
3203 SE Woodstock Blvd. Portland, OR. 97202.
The campus is absolutely gorgeous and some of the trees have been talked about in books and documentaries. There is a mix of beautiful old architecture along with brand new modern buildings that seem to fit together marvelously. Everything is within walking distance (maybe a 5 minute walk at most) and they supply ample free parking. Portland is a quirky & eclectic city with funky shops and loads of independent spirit.
Registration begins on Feb. 25, 2009. We do not accept any forms
before that date. Email us ahead of time if you have a group that
would like to be together on the same floor in the same dorm. All rooms
are designated as private, however there are 2 single beds in some of
the rooms. You may request to share a room but the pricing remains the
same. The off campus option is for those folks living in the area or those
who wish to find their own lodging.
Click here to access the registration page.

The Cafeteria is chic with lots of organic and natural options. They use
local farmed goods and all their sauces and dressings are made from
scratch. They always provide a great selection of entrees & sides, a
fantastic salad bar and a selection of desserts along with a soda foun-
tain, coffee, tea, etc.

The workshops are full day, 6 hour sessions designed to provide not only several techniques learned throughout the day but time enough to actually work on what has been learned so that it can sink in. The teachers come from all over the United States and represent some of the best in their fields. Each attendee picks one workshop for each of the 3 days (thursday, friday, & saturday). In addition to these full day workshops, we are offering 3 extra mini workshop demos on Thursday evening. Click here to see more info on the mini workshop demos.
The evening activities this year will include the popular Artists’ Marketplace on Friday night, providing a rare opportunity to buy original artwork from many of the best fiber artists around the country. You will find quirky supplies to use in your own artwork, kits, fabulous handmade yarn, buttons, fabrics, jewelry, dolls, purses, wall art, hooked rug pieces, and lots more. Only registered guests can apply to sell at this event. All attendees will receive info on applying in their confirmation packets. This event is open to the public, so if you live close to Reed, but can't make it for the workshops, definitely plan on dropping in for the sale. You won't be sorry. It happens on June 26th in the Student Union bldg. at 7pm-9pm. Parking and admission is free.
There is a Yahoo group that you can join if you'd like to chat with others about the event and all things art related. This is a group that was independently set up and is not a part of Alternative Arts Productions activities. You can find travel-mates to share a shuttle or a rental car, hear about useful techniques that the teachers sometimes throw out, find out more what to expect, etc. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com and type in Artfiberfest to find the group & register.
Your hosts for artFIBERfest are Teesha & Tracy Moore. Artfest was a concept that consumed my every thought roughly 10
years ago. It was right after I went through a period of asking the uni-
verse “What am I here to do”. When the visions started unfolding, I was
excited and scared a little. But I knew that until I set the wheels in mo-
tion, my thoughts would not leave me alone. So I stepped through the
first door and 10 years later, all the rest of the doors have been flung
wide open for me. It is one way of knowing I am on the right path. The
other way of knowing is the warmth and love that emanate from so
many of the attendees year after year. I am realizing in this day and
age, this is needed for so many reasons. Artfiberfest came along 5
years later and now Journalfest is the newest. I feel truly blessed to get
to be at the helm of such an exciting adventure that has made a differ-
ence in people’s lives. I was an artist with no training but a deep desire
to help others be artists too. Thankfully I had a troupe of really great
teachers and friends and family who were willing to stand behind me
and all pulled together to make the retreats what they are today. We
work hard to create a nurturing event where everyone feels accepted
re-gardless of where they are in their creative journey and also to show
each person just how much capacity they have for creat-ing.
Taking time out for yourself is one of the best things you can do in this
busy, crazy world. Everyone needs time to just be in nature, play, be
silent, gather ideas, commune with other artists, and get away from your
everyday lives for a few days. It allows you to refresh and pinpoint
directions you want to go in your life. The whole experience of Artfest
from the drive up, the beautiful fort on the beach, the inspiring work-
shops, the caring teachers, the groups that form, and your fellow atten-
dees makes it the perfect place for this to happen. Feel free to email us
with any questions at artgirl777@aol.com
