Cover Girls

The cover graphics on old record albums provide a great creativity challenge and a perfect surface for collage and paint. In this class we will use elements of the existing graphics as a starter, to create our own album “cover girls.” We will explore composition, collage and painting techniques with an emphasis on how to integrate the different elements into your final design. We will work on 2 albums at the same time so we can really flex our intuitive creative muscles. Your finished project can be framed in those great album cover frames or used as a large journal cover. All skill levels.

Supply List:

• Golden Fluid Acrylic Paint 1oz size:
  • #2386 Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide
  • #2385 Transparent Red Iron Oxide
  • #2380 Titanium White
  • #2255 Phthalo Blue
  • #2305 Quin. Magenta, or #2421 Primary Magenta, or #2305Quin. Red
  • Any other Golden Fluid Acrylic colors you would like to use for your project
• Small jar of Soft Gel Medium Matte, or 8 oz bottle of Liquid Medium Matte
• Small tube of Heavy Body Acrylic Paint in Titanium White
• Black or Dark Blue watercolor pencil – Stablio or Derwent Inktense are good
• Brushes: ¾” nylon flat for washes and a small round detail brush
• Water jar
• Album Cover: 2 standard record album covers, roughly 12”x12”. Look for interesting graphics to work with. Thrift store or yard sale purchase if you don’t have some at home.
• Main Image/Face of your Cover Girl: Several toner or laser copies in different sizes
  
  Optional:
• Small selection of toner/laser copies of clip art and papers that might work with your album design, Rubber stamp with text or texture, black quick dry inkpad.
  
  Teacher will provide:
• Class Instructional handout.
• Kit with enough photocopied images, vintage paper and clip art to complete your album, if you choose not bring your own papers/images.
• Various paints and stamps to share.
• Palette paper and paper towels.
