This is an extremely technical, creative and satisfying art exercise. Can one class be all that? Using a photograph as a beginning we will use the mesh method to reproduce in glass and tile a portrait of your choosing. Though placement of features will be precise, you will use your creativity to make that face unique, then place that face in a setting that can be playful or simply magical. It is up to you. We spend the second day grouting (2-color method) our finished piece.
I highly recommend you have had some mosaic experience before taking this class since the focus will practically be a lesson in painting with glass. If you thought you enjoyed mosaics before you will fall in love with this new technique. Final piece will be about 10”x10” and ready for framing. - I will need you to email or snail-me at least 3 photos you may want to use. I will blow them to the correct size for this project and make the eyes out of fused glass ahead of time to insure a great start and an amazing final product. I will bring all the materials you will need (glass, tile, mesh, boards, glues, grouts, substrate, nippers, pliers, cutters, etc.). It is important you contact me as soon as you sign up for the class so I can remind you to send me the photo in time.
