Heartscapes

Liesel Lund

Come create your own landscape of the heart! Taking what brings us joy, what brings us meaning, or what dreams are calling us forward, we will express them using surface and depth. Starting with the humble canvas board, we will alter the traditional, rectangular shape to create our own frame. We will also add dimension with constructed layers, three dimensional organic shapes, and paint, to add the illusion of depth and shadow. Into our heart-felt landscapes we can add secret nooks, windows or drawers. And for the “cherry-on-top”, you will embellish your lovely piece with the colors, images and objects that make your heart sing.

We will also talk about the creative process, how to nourish, coax, and listen to your artistic voice, how to work when you get frustrated, what to do with indecision, and how to know when you are done. Please join me for this wonderfully fun class!

I began my artistic career with a crayon masterpiece on the underneath side of the dining table (where it was not discover until years later). Following college, and five years of graphic design, I moved to Thailand as a Peace Corps Volunteer, where I created a visitor’s center at Doi Luang National Park. After two years of amazing Thai food, I returned home, longing for bread, cheese and chocolate. I then turned my creative energies in succession to designing exhibit signage for Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo, children’s books for McGraw-Hill, and textiles for Tommy Bahama.

I have been playing with my creative muse my whole life. In my studio you’ll find my cats and me mixing together: watercolor, pastels, acrylics, oils, journals, fibers, metal, beads, and photography. I believe that art adds an invaluable richness to life, and it is my passion to share the joy of creativity.
