Spend a whole day drawing, painting, coloring, and exploring portrait painting. I will share with you many different techniques to paint /draw a portrait. In the class, we will be focusing on drawing & then painting accurate face proportions, wandering through facial expressions, looking at color choices and their effects, creating quirky blind contour drawings, and building painterly texture. We will be working small to allow for a lot of exploring and letting go and moving on. Once you find your favorite method of painting portraits you will then paint, paint, paint until you have 9 or more portraits to be mounted onto a sheet of mat board.
Supply List:
- 18 or more (depending on how quickly you work) 3" x 3" squares of 140 or 300 lb hot press watercolor paper (100% cotton Paper is worth the $$$)
- Drawing Pad
- 2b charcoal Pencil & regular HB pencil
- Eraser
- Small Jar of Soft Gel Matte Medium (this is what I use for glue, if you have a favorite glue and want to use it...please d0)
- Golden Titanium White is a must plus a variety of your favorite colors. A few of my Favorites: Paynes Gray, Quinacridone/ Nickel Azo Gold, Quinacridone Crimson, Hansa Yellow Medium.
- A few FolkArt paints from Michael’s
- Artist Crayons (must be water soluble) I highly recommend Neocolor II by Caran D' Ache
- A Magazine with great face images for collage & reference
- Scissors
- Masking Tape

- Black Aquarella Stabilo Marks All Pencil (www.dickblick.com/products/stabilo-colored-marking-pencils)
- One or more sheet(s) 9" x 9" of mat board or foam board for mounting your 3" x 3" portraits
- A container for water
- A few Rags or paper towels
