Encaustic lends itself beautifully to experimentation. There are so many possibilities-from imbedding, transferring, burning, carving, manipulating and fixing into beeswax! In this workshop we will explore just some of the alternative materials and techniques to jazz up this already diverse and exciting medium! Through this experimentation you will take the reins and discover new and diverse ways to work with wax in your own painting. Techniques explored but not limited to; shellac burn, bleached paper layering, glue/tea burn, metallic pigment layering, gold leaf usage and ash inclusion. Experience with encaustic a must-but no need to be an expert! Come play~

Supply List:
- 6 -10 boards to paint on:
Either Claybord smooth or
Plywood panels-no larger than 8x10
- Carving tools (suggestions)
- Razor blades, scrapers, palette knives, pottery tools, cookie cutters-any metal that will cut into or carve the wax
- Impression makers (suggestions):
Screen, hardware, natural materials, scrap booking stuff
- Collage material (suggestions):
Old paintings, decorative papers, fabric, yarn, string, wire, beads
- A few Oil bar or oil paint
- Found objects or natural elements (suggestions)
- Rusty metal, dried leaves, sticks, cones, wire
- Elmer’s wood glue
- Brown paper bag
- Scissors
- Paper towel
- Wax paper for wrapping completed painting for transportation
- Latex or rubber gloves
