Watch Case Locket

Richard Salley

This is a project workshop in which students will learn how to turn an old, non-working wristwatch into a beautiful keepsake locket similar to the example. We’ll start with a watch case, fill it with resin, add some wire, learn some winding, bending and cold-connection techniques and turn it all into a unique piece of jewelry.

I have recently retired from teaching in public schools to devote more time to my art and teaching workshops around the country. I consider myself not so much a jeweler but rather a ‘maker of stuff’. My interests include digital art, mixed media collage/assemblage, sculpture and jewelry. I prefer to work with alternative materials and non-traditional techniques when creating art. My work has been featured in ‘Step-by-Step Wire Jewelry’ and ‘Jewelry Artist’ magazines, Susan Lenart-Kazmer’s book ‘Making Connections’, ‘Collage, Assemblage and Altered Art’ by D. Maurer-Mathison, and 'Exhibition 36' by Susan Tuttle.
