Words and Pictures

Theo Ellsworth

Writing and drawing, as two separate art forms, are both amazing ways to express yourself, but combining them can open entire new realms of fun possibilities. Everyone thinks in both words and images, so I believe that combining them in your art brings you that much closer to expressing your natural way of seeing the world. Putting words and pictures together also allows you to do things that neither art form can do on it's own. For me, exploring this combination is one of my greatest joys as an artist, but it's also taken me quite awhile to get them to work together in harmony. In this class, I'll be sharing some of the ways I've found to get words and pictures to dance together. We'll do drawing and writing games, doodles and spontaneous journaling; filling a handmade zine with our explorations. You dont' have to feel confident in either art form, just a desire to investigate new places and have fun doing it!
