Between the Lines

Tracie & Marylin Huskamp

Exploring the idea of texture, texture mediums, as well as alternative texture materials, we  will paint a series of abstract mixed-media, nature inspired artworks.

This workshop, suitable for all skill levels, unravels the secrets of abstract painting as it applies  to creating stunning landscapes and sweeping vistas, Students will investigate design principles  of composition, design concepts of light and dark, the importance of line and horizon, creating  organic shapes to represent terrain, along with using a variety of materials to obtain depth and  dimension through texture to render a three-dimensional quality to an artwork. And finally,  developing a visual language of color as it applies to nature scenes, in order to successfully  represent both ground and sky.

Tracie Lyn Huskamp:

It wasn’t until Tracie participated in a plein-air painting class during art school  that she discovered Nature as an unending source of inspiration. Even after ten  years of creating Nature artworks, she feels no desire to stop using natural subjects  to convey her artistic messages. Tracie’s dream of sharing this love continues  through teaching workshops and with the September 2009 release of her new book,  Nature Inspired - Mixed Media Techniques for Gathering, Sketching, Painting,  Journaling, and Assemblage.

Marylin Huskamp:

Marylin's fiber work has received national recognition.  Her art has appeared in various publications including Somerset, Belle Armoire, Altered Couture, Haute Handbag, Cloth Paper Scissors and Fibre & Stitch.  She is a proud contributor to the book, Collaborative Art Journals, by LK Ludwig.
