The artists in this workshop will come away with a personal wall calendar extraordinaire. Creating an 11 x 14 collage as a “base background” the student will then layer “memory” transparencies
by rolling the symbolic images and/or words down and across, creating unlimited combos. No month or day will ever look the same again. The transparencies will reflect personal quests, memories, and special dates embracing the life and moments of each individual artists world.
i am an artist always tempting myself with what may be possible with color, textures, or the discarded. i love to create something out of what appears to be nothing...there is usually a story to be peeled back from all of the layers created. if it's faded, worn, or timeless, i can't seem to pass these treasures up. i enjoy the process of assemblage, and how my work tends to reveal something hidden...a question to be answered, or at least asked! my work represents my life, either in how i experience and visualize my world, or through the hopeful eyes of a dreamer. when i am in the midst of expressing myself through photography, assemblage, painting or writing, i am most at home with myself.
so here’s a quick tour of what’s been going on in my life for the past few years…in the back door, all the way through the house, and out the front door to were it all began. (not really, but close!)…all in three minutes or less!
most recently, i have team taught painting with my husband, dan in guatemala to fifty or so children, ranging in ages from 12-18 at a wonderful school run by some very inspiring nuns. This was a life altering experience for us both.
I have shown my work alongside other local artisans at the first friday gallery walks/crossroads district, in kansas city. I was luckily chosen to exhibit my work at a couple of national juried art shows.
I have had my “nest series” featured in the mélange section of somerset studio magazine, mar/apr 07 and jul/aug 07 back page, along with an article that I wrote.
prior to all of the above, I had my own funky little antiques, floral, & interiors shop here in a sweet little historic town amidst the beautiful rolling hills just outside of kansas city. mabel annie’s was recognized and featured in two national decorating magazines. she was my “canvas” for five years. wonderful memories!
classes in my newly constructed studio, including painting, mixed media, & assemblage are just getting under way at the time of this entry. there will be more information on my blog or website detailing the studio class schedule.
most importantly, i am happily a mother of five and nana to three, plus one on the way. I share my life with my best friend & husband, artist dan carrel.
