This art journal that is as much a work of art as what you will create in it. Using copper sheet metal, a couple of candy tins, some brass hinges, and a little "blackbird magic", students will learn how to fabricate this oversized (11.5" wide x 7.5" tall) all-metal art journal. Then, alter the surface of the metal with patinas and torching techniques and attach tins and pockets to the cover for storing your art supplies and/or tools. Add a decorative handle to carry it with and off you go!

Thomas & Romona Ashman live and work in Bakersfield CA. Thomas is a public school teacher and Romona works in the medical field. Their artistic endeavors have been featured in Somerset Studio magazine, and Signatures; and their microscope slide jewelry was featured in the Design Originals book: Simply Soldered. Thomas and Romona are teaching classes at an ever-growing number of national retreats as well as all over southern and central California. From their converted dining room, also known as 4 and Twenty Blackbird’s Artist Studio, Thomas and Romona express their eclectic visions in mixed media sculpture, jewelry, hand made journals, dolls, and other oddities with a special fascination for metal and glass. Finding much of their inspiration in classic literature, drama, and film, Thomas and Romona like to create wearable or functional objects in their imaginative and challenging workshops in which they bring their favorite stories to life as these “artifacts” and characters are transported from imagination into reality.
