Here is your opportunity to experiment with liquid acrylics and discover the joy of working spontaneously and quickly to jumpstart your creativity. The principals learned can be easily incorporated into any painting style. We will cover activities to spark creativity and create imaginative creatures with simple tools and a minimum of drawing skills. We will cover backgrounds, gel medium image transfers and painting techniques using liquid acrylic paints. No prior art experience needed. Prepare to have fun and discover the hidden artist in you.

• Golden Liquid acrylics, 1 ounce bottle:
• Titan Buff
• Transparent Red Iron Oxide
• Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide
• Paynes grey
• Quinachridone Crimson or Napthol Red
• Green of your choice (Jenkins Green, Sap, Phthalo Green…)
  
  
• Optional:
• Zinc White/ Black and any other colors that inspire you
• Any brand Heavy body acrylic, small tube or jar:
• Titanium White
  
  
• Mediums:
• Acrylic liquid matte medium (needs to be liquid as we will be painting with it)
• Small jar of Golden Soft Gel Medium (for transfers)
  
  
• Surface:
• 2-4 sheets of watercolor paper 10”x14”. Tear each sheet into (4) 5”x7”pieces and prime with the liquid matte medium prior to class.
• 2 – 5x7 canvas boards for your final paintings.
  
  
• Brushes:
• (I love Royal brand “Soft Grip” brushes found at Michaels for $2.99)
• ¾”-1” flat nylon brush #10-12
• 1 small round nylon detail brush #00 -0
• 1 medium round nylon detail brush #1-3
  
  
• Other stuff:
• Palate/ wax paper for paints and Water jar
• Glue stick and 2 general color magazines for cutting up
• About 5 small pages with a variety of text sizes for collage (not much, we are covering a 5”x7” surface with it) Ex: small print dictionary, page from child’s reader, page from foreign language book …. I am a self taught mixed media artist drawn to the saturated colors and layering that can be achieved using oil paints and liquid acrylics. The images I paint are contemporary characters and landscapes that have been inspired by vintage children’s book illustrations, photographs and ephemera. These images have a story just waiting to be told and my goal is to paint pieces, which have a story – left up to the viewer to imagine. I am a regular instructor in collage and acrylic painting techniques at the San Diego Art Department in San Diego.
