Please join me for a Quilting Bee….only this in NOT your traditional quilting class! We will take the day to explore using polymer clay to create a “clay quilt”. Our experimentations in clay will push the medium to the max. A myriad of mixed media techniques will be used to create each handmade quilt square. These techniques include painting the raw clay, using mica and embossing powders, beading and embedding metal, fabric, paper, and jewelry into the clay, and we might actually use a needle and thread too! This will be a hands-on class where students will get to make and bake all of their own pieces. At the end of the Bee, students will have a beautiful jewel-like clay quilt ready to adorn a wall.

• Approximately a 12 x 12 inch square piece of ½ inch plywood or MDF. Please attach a hanger on the back before class if you would like it to hang.
• 9 small (2 ounce) packages of Premo or Sculpey III polymer clay. I prefer darker colors. You may get all of the same color, or 3 sets of 3 different colors. Try to buy at Michaels during their .99 cents sale!
• Rolling pin or rod- can be wood, acrylic or even a piece of pipe.
• Assorted paintbrushes
• A few favorite rubber stamps if you have them, including stamps with textures and words. I will be bringing some.
• Collage sheets if you would like to create a collaged background for your squares, otherwise, it can be painted. I also use collage face images to embed in the clay.
• Doo-dads like crowns, wings and small metal frames. (see pic for ideas)
• Jewelry parts, rhinestones, buttons, brads, fabric pieces, metal pieces or charms to embed in the clay.
• A small bottle of Weldbond glue-can be found at Ace Hardware or online.

I am a mixed media artist with a passion for combining and overlapping a variety of mediums creating an original style of mixed-media mosaics using handmade tiles. My love of travel to far off places and experiences of living abroad have shaped the way my art looks today. Over the past few years, I have been fortunate enough to combine my travels with the joy of teaching and sharing all of the discoveries I have made along the way. I have appeared on TV on Craft Lab and Crafter’s Coast to Coast. My work has been published in both magazines and books and recently, my own book, Mixed Media Mosaics, was released.
