Finding Treasures
LK Ludwig
Are you one of us? A thing-finder? A collector of stuff? Someone whose idea of souvenirs are bits of natural things you’ve found? Do you head to the beach when you arrive at Fort Worden? When you travel do you have a baggie in your suitcase for rocks, sticks, shells, and other bits of nature? This wall hanging piece takes mica, metal mesh, ink jet transfers, transparencies, photos, and your found objects and creates an artwork that will return you to that special spot each time your eyes travel over it. A perfect project for the Saturday of Artfest. You’ll enjoy a great class and leave with a finished yet easily transportable work of art.
Supply List:
- I’ll provide patina solution and supplies, latex gloves, spray bottles, burnishing tools, clear spray paint, masking tape, painters tape, HVAC tape, various tools, wire, practice images.
- You’ll need:
- mica- two packs if you are purchasing from coffeebreakdesign.com, volacnoarts.biz, or usartquest.com. I will also have mica for sale in my etsy shop (link will be on my website) and you can purchase it there, up until the point I can no longer ship it to you for you to have it on time. Any place you wish to purchase it is fine.
- 50-100 1/8 “ eyelets, eyelet setting tools, hole punch
- a mat to hammer upon or a bench block, if you have one already.
- one pack of WireMesh, by Amaco available at misterart.com, dickblick.com, or Michaels. Product looks like this: http://www.misterart.com/store/view/001/group_id/7063/AMACO-WireMesh-Woven-Fabric.htm
- 1 ball of twine, waxed linen thread or dental floss.
- imagery: images from your chosen special location-
- three images on transparency.
- AT LEAST THREE photographs of you should be printed using an inkjet printer on Jetprint Multiproject Glossy paper. These are for inkjet-water image transfers.
- NOTE: Please do not use some other type of paper for these images. Every time I teach inkjet water transfers, I have a few folks who use another type of paper or a different type of printer or copier and their transfers DO NOT work. JetPrint Multiproject paper is available in the office supply section of walmart, from amazon.com, or from jetprintphoto.com. Please, if you wish to learn inkjet-water transfers, do not substitute another paper.
- If you are interested in imagery from Ft. Worden’s beach, but haven’t any of your own, I will make packets of my images and place them in my etsy shop (link via my website.)
- A piece of driftwood or some other object to use as the top support for your wall hanging.
- found bits and bobs – small and light enough to attach to your piece, or large, light and flat enough to form an independent section (like the wing in the class sample)
- ribbons or fibers for embellishment
- Optional:
- You may wish to bring earplugs as there will be a lot of hammering!
