The Shrine Divine

Michael Jon Peterson

In this class we will experience the Shrine Divine. This idea came when my father passed and I needed something special to put his picture and small personal items in. Since then I have used them to display special things of all kinds. They also make unique gifts for a 50th birthday, new baby, pet that has passed away, etc. We will go over many styles of base shapes and how to construct them. The face of the shrine can also be any shape. I will go over techniques of building layered papers for texture and dimension. Then comes the fun part! I will show how to make paper "prayer beads", halos, wings, flowers and all of the little detail shapes that make these shrines so special and one of a kind. We will also go over many ideas for incorporating personal items into the design of the shrine. We will build different shapes in class so each student will leave being able to build sturdy, stable structures.
