description

Join us for a fun day of creating a passel of pixies! These dimensional, stand-alone wooden cut-outs are just the starting point for a myriad of projects…think paper dolls taken up a notch! After creating the basic forms, we will attach metal hats, crowns and wings with tiny metal screws and then the fun begins…where to perch your pixie? On vintage blocks, inside teacups or jars, on architectural elements…the possibilities are endless! Make a whole group to sit on top of your computer monitor! Fill up an empty shelf! Students will learn how to cut wood and metal with a jeweler’s saw, work with metal (drilling, shaping, etc), and learn general construction with cold connections.

Stephanie Jones Rubiano earned a bachelors of science degree in marine biology and worked as an environmental scientist for 5 years in Houston, TX for a major oil company. So, it stands to reason that she is now an almost full-time artist who revels in the creative process. Her work has been seen on the outside and inside of such publications as Somerset Studio, Belle Armoire, Bead and Button, The Art of Polymer Clay Jewelry, The Adventurous Scrapbooker and various booklets by Design Originals. She has taught classes and been a vendor at national art gatherings for the last five years and her work has been carried in galleries and boutiques across the United States. She lives and creates in Austin, TX with her 3 year-old daughter, 2 cats and assorted marine fish and invertebrates.
