Connections with Stones

Susan Lenart Kazmer

Once, while walking by a stream bed, a random twinkling caught my eye. As I pulled the glittery object up and I realized it was the sun’s reflection on a stone. A Beautiful, delicate matrix of hematite flowed randomly through this stone and visible layers of minerals provided a map to how this piece was once composed then hardened. It was beautiful. I laughed inside when I realized that to a jeweler this stone would not even be considered a “B” grade. In this hands on workshop learn to incorporate personal stones and treasures as objects in jewelry. Using cold join techniques and layers of sheet metal, build a variety of metal structures and unique bezels forms to capture objects in your work. New Techniques include free form staples, wire prongs, new riveting ideas. Wonderful workshop for all interested in expanding their metals skills.
