As a lettering artist I usually use the alphabet for conveying messages-but now I have twisted letters around and included them as a design element in my work! In this workshop the artist will use traditional and nontraditional calligraphy tools to make incredible fabric backgrounds and swirls on canvas and muslin. Words too can be used here-but we’ll abstract and alter them. The modern scribble is neat behind your collages and journal pages. Doodling sinuous thick and thin lines and other exercises will be our experiments. These fabric backgrounds will make wonderful textures on fabric -a small art quilt will be created in class with our discoveries.  Simple wash techniques will provide a backgrounds for flourishes, creative flowers and swirls making personal intuitive marks.Washes begin our pieces and then letters and tools layered on top of these backgrounds. Intuitive mark making will produce alot of fun surprises. Some basic italic lettering will be presented-a tiny bit of calligraphy to understand how the beautiful thick and thin strokes are made and then the artist in us will be unleashed! Absolutely no experience is necessary for this workshop!
