In this workshop the artist will explore the two essential sides of herself and enclose it by writing in an fabric flip book-One side the light part-turn it around and over and on the other side the dark. (the yin and the yang, the good  and the bad, etc.) The pages of this book will be raw canvas and muslin fabric-the covers scored canvas boards. The artist will begin by spontaneously formulating intuitive personal text by digging a bit deep into our past, present and our bright future. We will create backgrounds for our covers and pages with wash, stencil and spray techniques using two distinct palettes for each book entrance. Simple hand lettering tools, basic calligraphy  and techniques for writing on fabric will be presented for immediate writing in this book with our own words.

       Ephemera and amulets will be sewn into our book or applied with lots of hiding places and envelopes for secret and sacred personal texts. The book will be simply bound with an accordion spine or punched with eyelets and joined by ball chain. Constant emphasis will be on the value, contrast and layout of the page spreads-creating an even balance of dark and light. This concept will also be the underlying theme of our most personal book-for every page of dark-there is assuredly corresponding light!
