My artwork reflects my interests in mythology and psychology. The way the old stories still resonate. Seeking to express an enlivened, tactile exploration of stories. Stories connect us to the rituals of Life. Becoming tuned into a realm of life-nourishing, collective, world mythologies. Representing the stages of life's passages as experienced physically. Themes of stages of life: birth, death, and initiation stories, emotional passages & assumed life responsibilities, we hold in-common. The stories are the bridge. The images are not limited to "the stories". Experiencing my art, find your own connection.
I believe in an interconnectedness existing between “the self” and the stories. Joseph Campbell, said, “Myths are clues to the spiritual potentialities of the human life.” I call upon the energy of the archetype and request its presence during the process of creation. Lump of cold, wet, sticky, clay. Raw, matter, smooth, form, let sit, etch with world symbols, dry, fire, paint, gloss, fire again. This process of creation is also a symbolic process, one of individuation, essential to our health and balance.
These sculptures arise from within the vast, collective, “database” of what Carl Jung referred to as “the collective unconscious”. We dream, we create, we imagine from this place, beyond time, from beyond the world of separation. A plane of interconnected intelligence can be found, can be accessed. Can be called upon. This Divine intelligence resides in all life including the raw materials of the medium, clay. What you see are the sculptural ponderings of the symbolic, archetypal language speaking through low-fire clay & water.
Art answers to the puzzle of “meaning” of life. Listen to the stories. Spoken word, resonating impulses of emotion and connectedness. The natural world is the experience of polarities: hot-cold, day-night, wet-dry, male-female, good-bad, a plethora of mysterious, interconnected patterns, laws and intelligence. There is intelligence within all things. We are all connected. Synchronicity or coincidence? Chance or destiny? Healing begins by working with the collective unconsciousness, the symbols we are attracted to, that we express, images that we choose to surround ourselves with, and Archetypes are the language.
Georgia graduated from Atlanta College of Art in 1986. She has been creating and selling archetypal sculptures since 1989. Her work has been sold in galleries and stores across the country. Much of the artist’s work since 1994 is created for, collected by, therapeutically used by psychotherapists in a Jungian process called Sandplay Therapy. The artist is working to complete the studies for 2000 archetypes each with a story card, The Archetypes 2000 Collection, to be completed by 2018.
