This experiential workshop will take us out-of-doors, onto the beach and back again to the page. We’ll begin by making the short drive down to the Ft. Worden beach (rain or shine – be prepared to really be out doors for about an hour – be prepared for both rain and cold just in case) where we’ll create sand and found nature object sculptures…some would call them altars. We’ll visit each other’s creations, photograph them (I’ll have a Polaroid camera for that), then back to our studio room for journaling our experience and capturing the nature art we created on the page. Ft. Worden is a magical place and spending time on the beach in one creative mode leads naturally to capturing the moments in our journals through a mixed media exploration with Polaroids, drawing, painting and writing. This class is open to all – new journalers and experienced journalers alike. A brief demonstration of teacher provided materials will be given. While our ephemeral beach art will disappear with the next shifting of the tide, our journal pages will capture the experience. Come play outside and discover the power and inspiration of place.

A Little About ME
I am an artist, wife and mother of two teenagers living on the high plains of Colorado. I’m mad about journaling and have been at it in my studio and on the road for 10 years. I love to cook and eat (not in that order), travel and explore (always, anywhere), garden sporadically (and in small containers), museum hop, blog (exploring life, travel and art – the good stuff) dance (with or without a partner), teach art (big and tiny humans) scavenge and collect (think corvid librarian), am inspired by the intricacies and divine beauty of nature, and am a life long learner and experimenter. In a former life I was Associate Publisher of a nationally circulated environmental magazine called Buzzworm. You can find my work on my blog and in these publications: 1000 Artist Journal Pages by Dawn DeVries Sokol, Beaded Embellishment by Amy Clarke, 500 Beaded Objects by Lark Books, and in issues of Studios Magazine, Beadwork Magazine and Cloth, Paper, Scissors Magazine and in The Brooklyn Art Library’s Sketchbook Project.
