With One Stone

Want to learn how to get into the habit of drawing everyday while documenting parts of your life? It is that two "goals" with one stone theory. In this class you will learn to loosen up, draw without the crutch of an eraser, use watercolors and colored pencils to give your journal entry that little "something extra". We will be drawing some found objects and/or everyday objects you might find around you and then journal on how these objects relate to you or remind you of your inner most secrets. If time permits, we will also learn how to incorporate photos/mementos and your drawings into a memory page.

Supply List

  • A personal journal book - paper is heavy enough to hold water without falling apart
  • Gaber-Castell PITT artist pens Small, Fine or Medium or Waterproof India ink pens (Pigma Micron pens)
  • Quality Watercolors Pentel or Grumbacher in the tubes (bring a variety of your favorite colors)
  • Watercolor brushes I prefer the brushes that will hold their shape and point well
  • Assortment of PrismaColor colored pencils
  • Small pencil sharpener
  • Glue Stick
  • Small scissors
  • Print outs (Laser printer or ink jet) of photos for a memory page

I am a graphic designer by trait and have recently started pursuing my first love, the finer side of art. I have always ³journaled² for short bursts of time, ending in a book that has the first 10 pages filled and nothing after. Two years ago, I started a new ³sketchbook² that incidentally turned into my first visual journal. These journals are some of my most prized possessions.

The main reason I keep my journal going is so that when my kids grow up and my grandkids want to know who their grandma was, they will know me through my pictures and words. I am almost 40 and am just now starting to scratch the surface on who my parents and grandparents are on a personal level. I wish I knew them on an intimate level, their thoughts on life and what joys and sorrows they experienced during their lives, not how someone else perceives them or relays to me ³who they are/were².
