Attachment Theory

Attachments are the core theme in all of our journal entries. Attachments to people, places, images, visions, thoughts, emotions, experiences- you name it, they all make it into our intimate pages. In that sense, this workshop will not be any different. To muse and amuse us however, we will be adding other kind of attachments, more tangible, such as clear, opaque, and glassine envelopes, wrappers, CD and trading-card sleeves, etc., and we will also be making our own 'visual information holders'. They will contain our loose notes and images, representatives of our profound attachments. We will be creating journal pages that express those opposites that reside in us, the weighty and the light, the solemn and the whimsical, in yet another attempt to unify ourselves. Be prepared for heart- and hands-on journaling. Bring in your very own 'visual information holders' and I promise to treat you with some of mine.

Supply List

  • Please read the workshop description attentively and gather your materials with intent.
  • Bring your journal with you and the art media you are most attached to or would like to get attached to:

  • Art materials and tools- (i.e. pens, pencils, paints, brushes, scissors, etc.)
  • Images and scraps of paper (i.e. pictures, photocopies, notes, letters, etc.)
  • Attaching supplies (i.e. adhesives, Velcro dots, tapes, etc.)
  • Visual information holders (i.e. envelopes, sleeves, wrappers, etc.)

I lived and studied Fine Arts in an artists' village nestled at the foot of the mystical Mount Carmel in Israel, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. In 1989, I graduated from the University of Arts in the contemporary yet history-drenched city of Utrecht in The Netherlands, with a degree in Graphic Design. Now in Southern California, I make a living in the creative field as a graphic designer, illustrator, muralist, textile designer, and teacher of art journaling and make a creative life for myself as a woman, mother, friend and an art journal keeper. I am very passionate about my journal entries, whether they are in my actual journals or the digital journal I keep on my blog, as they help me better understand the forces that move me and the worlds around me-I am very inspired by other visual journal keepers and I get excited about acquainting others with the undeniable and boundless rewards of art journaling.
