Explore the Form

Use one simple shape to create a themed journal or journal pages that are layered with personal meaning, technique and materials. You will choose one shape to become your symbol using a pattern provided by me or by drawing your own. We will be making accordion style pages that can be made into a journal or the pages can be added to a pre-existing journal. Using your chosen shape/symbol you will explore on each page through layers of paint, collage and drawing using papers, photos, fabric, crayons, stamping and stenciling.

Supply List:

• Paper scissors
• Ex-acto knife and a metal ruler
• 2 or 3 UHU glue sticks
• Drawing materials- Sharpies, pencils, etc.
• Bone folder
  
  If you have these:
• A Brayer
• A blow dyer to dry layers quickly
  
  Optional: This is the stuff you like to play with-
• Black and white copies of text and personal photos
• Color copies of photos, magazine pages
• Fabric scraps
• Embroidery floss and yarns
• Painted papers and paper scraps, library pockets, tags, etc
• Rubber stamps
• Mini-sewing machine and threads

  You will have use of in class:
• Caran D’Ache water soluble crayons
• Large foam rubber stamps, stencils, printing tools
• Paint brushes and cosmetic sponges
