Join us for a trip into the unknown! We’ll evoke the adventurer in us as we use our journals to create and explore unknown worlds. Was your journal unearthed in the forest, a book of magic long ago fallen from a gypsy’s wagon? Did it fall from the sky with images and entries from another galaxy? Does it tell what life is like under the sea or in a fantastical garden? Just like an intrepid adventurer who returns to tell about their journey-we’ll use the journal to evoke mystery and create a sense of story. We’ll use the page as part of our story-tearing edges, and openings that lead your eye through your magical wonderland. You’ll discover how to make paper and fabric look worn with age. You’ll learn how to use the alchemy of paint and collage to create wonderful textures-water, stone, wood, parchment, and forest. I’ll demo how how to mix and layer watercolors to add depth and interest to your pages. We’ll also play with acrylic paint, glitter, ephemera, fibers and embellishments to enhance our story. There is no limit to the delightful possibilities. No passport required!
I love art, nature & adventures. As a Peace Corps Volunteer, I created a nature center at Doi Luang National Park, Thailand. Later I designed graphics for Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo, children’s books for McGraw-Hill, and textiles for Tommy Bahama. In my studio, in addition to petting the kitties and drinking large cups of tea, I work with watercolor, pastels, acrylics, oils, fibers, jewelry, and photography. You can find me in Studios magazine Spring 2010, and in these books: Creative Wildfire by LK Ludwig, and Drawing Lab for Mixed Media Artists by Carla Sonheim.
