Some call it collecting, accumulating, or gathering, some call it obsession. Creative people love to surround themselves and draw inspiration from our "stash" of treasures. Inspiration for this book comes from a collection of vintage anatomical drawings and broken doll parts.
Layers of paint and collage are the base for this hand constructed book. You will create mixed media layered paper for the cover and pages of the book, using several techniques, collage, stenciling, stamping and printing. We will create part of our "collection" with paper, metal tape and transparencies.
Learn some sclupey basics to create beads, charms, doll parts and image transfers. You will learn how to make molds so that you can create your own collection of Sculpey parts that can be used in your book. Finally, you will hand sew 9 signatures on to the cover and I will demonstrate beading techniques and tips. The book form will be completed in class and then you can continue adding to your collection at your pleasure.
I am a mixed media teaching artist exploring my creative voice through visual art journals, collage, painting, and sewing. I am passionate about color, cloth, journaling and exploring the layered surface. I currently work for the Museum of Children’s Art in Oakland, CA as a full time teaching artist.
My work has appeared in Somerset Workshop, vol.1, Somerset Memories, Sew Somerset, Somerset, Making Creative Cloth Dolls, Stuffed-a gathering of softies, and Green-Craft.
