Come sculpt with iron wire and discover ways to create coverings for your creations. From vessels to jewelry, we will use Japanese and other delicious handmade papers to paper mache skins that react with the iron to create haunting patterns on the surfaces. And for the brave of heart we will experiment using gut sausage casings over our steel. This ancient material has had many uses over the centuries and has a whole host of fabulous possibilities for contemporary artists. It shrinks to form a drum tight fight over sculptural forms and dries to a paper-like consistency, reacting to the iron in much the same way as the paper. A word of warning- the wet casings are not for the squeamish and carry an odor much like the family dog after a day in the creek. If you are game for trying the bizarre and unusual, and are the type of person who gets a thrill out of any new art material, then gut and steel will rock your world.
